Wedding bands for him and her: what to choose at Segal
The wedding band gets worn for decades, so comfort and fit matter as much as looks. Here's how to choose, for both of you.
For her: match the band to the engagement ring
Start with the engagement ring, not the band. A straight band works with solitaires and most hidden-halo rings. A curved band follows the outline of halos, flowers and low-set stones so the two rings touch. An eternity band, with stones all the way round, gives the most sparkle but is hard to resize, while an anniversary or half-eternity band keeps stones on top only.
Keep the metal the same as the engagement ring unless you deliberately want contrast. Different golds rub against each other and can wear unevenly.
For him: width, finish and comfort
Segal's men's bands fall into four groups: classic polished bands, carved or engraved bands with texture, diamond bands with channel or bezel-set stones, and alternative metals. Most men are happiest with a comfort-fit band (rounded inside) between 5 and 7 mm wide. If he rarely wears jewellery, a classic band with a brushed finish hides scratches and feels less showy.
One practical tip: men's fingers swell more with heat and exercise. If he's between sizes, size up.

Should our wedding bands match?
They do not have to. Matching metal is the most common link; matching width or finish is another option. Many couples choose completely different bands.
What width is best for a man's band?
Most men wear 5 to 7 mm. Under 5 mm can look thin on larger hands; 8 mm and above feels substantial and needs a slightly larger size.
Can eternity bands be resized?
Full eternity bands with stones all the way round are hard or impossible to resize. Get the size right, or choose a half-eternity band.
